Bundle Dyeing
I first started teaching bundle dye workshops in 2021. I have taught them at Lady Luck Flower Farm outside of Asheville, NC. In Athens, GA at Nona Farm and at Buvez. I have taught them at Local Color, Our Time Kitchen, Sophomore Coffee, Bloom House, and Station North Tool Library in Baltimore. I teach using both fresh and dried natural materials to dye silk scarves or silk pillow slips. Using the technique of bundle dyeing students manipulate their cloth using flowers and roots to create vibrant color interactions. The silk is wrapped in string and steamed in which the color is released. The students leave with their one of a kind piece.
Weaving
I first started teaching weaving when in undergrad at Warren Wilson College. During college, I served as the Community Arts Leader of the Fiber Arts Crew. In this role, I focused on preserving the weaving and traditional craft history of the Appalachian Mountains. I led various Community Arts Projects, including workshops on natural dyeing, weaving, embroidery, and large art quilt creation within the college community.
While my major was in Art with a focus on photography, I also worked weaving 15 hours a week on campus. I then went on after college to be an apprentice to a weaver. I then went on to work with the Asheville Area Arts Council offering weaving and textile classes to veterans. These classes were conducted both at the Arts Council studio and the Veterans Hospital, specifically working with the drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. I created and implemented the curriculum as well as was in charge of maintaining and ordering all supplies.
I currently teach weaving on table looms at The Station North Tool Library. Students learn beginning weaving, learning how to calculate a warp, thread the loom, simple tapestry techniques, as well as finishing techniques. This class is offered once every other month in Baltimore. MD.
